Welcome to the ADA CELESTA Kickoff Tour — a limited‐participant experience curated for nature lovers, aquascaping enthusiasts, and cultural explorers. Guided by Yusuke Homma, ADA SUIKEI Creator, this immersive 7‐day journey takes you from Tokyo to Sado Island and Niigata, blending breathtaking landscapes with deep cultural insights.

Tokyo & Sado Island – Nature Meets Inspiration
- Sumida Aquarium (Tokyo): Discover ADA’s aquascaping philosophy in action.
- Sado Island: Explore ancient cedar forests, alpine plant habitats, and the rugged
- Sotokaifu coastline in Sado, an island of rich history and relaxed atmosphere, only accessible by ferry and hydrofoil high‐speed boats from Niigata.
- Trace the footsteps of legendary aquascaper/ photographer Takashi Amano, visiting landscapes he once captured.
- Visit the historic Sado Gold Mine, a UNESCO World Heritage Site rich in cultural legacy.
Niigata Mainiland (Murakami city) ‒ Zen Meditation Experience
- Participate in a traditional Zen meditation session at a local temple in Murakami.
- Learn about Zen philosophy, mindfulness practices, and the cultural foundations of Japanese spirituality through expert guidance.
Tour Finale ‐ ADA Nature Aquarium Gallery
- Participate in a hands‐on aquascaping workshop featuring ADA’s iconic large‐scale tanks.
- Enjoy a special lunch at Takashi Amano’s private residence, with time to admire the stunning 4‐meter Nature Aquarium — a true masterpiece of aquatic art.

- Tour End: The tour concludes at Niigata Station on the final day.

Transportation Tips for Participants
To help you plan your journey smoothly:
- From Narita or Haneda Airport to Tokyo Station:
- From Narita Airport: Take the Narita Express (N’EX) directly to Tokyo Station (approx. 60 minutes).
- From Haneda Airport: Use the Tokyo Monorail to Hamamatsucho Station, then transfer to the JR Yamanote Line to Tokyo Station (approx. 30–40 minutes).
- From Niigata Station to Tokyo or Airports:
- Take the Joetsu Shinkansen from Niigata Station to Tokyo Station (approx. 2 hours).
- From Tokyo Station, transfer to either Narita Express or Tokyo Monorail depending on your airport.
June is the best season to see wild daylilies and rare alpine plants in Sado.
Meals feature exceptional dishes made with local ingredients, and the accommodations are carefully selected to ensure a beautiful and refined stay.
Please Consider:
The visit to the primeval cedar forest on Sado Island involves several hours of walking along unpaved wooden paths, stairways, and mountain trails. Please be aware that:
- You will encounter steep staircases and uneven terrain.
- The mountain area is often shrouded in mist, and there may be a significant temperature difference compared to lower elevations.
- For your safety and comfort, we strongly recommend wearing outdoor hiking shoes and bringing rain gear.
This part of the tour offers a truly immersive nature experience, but it requires a moderate level of physical fitness and preparation.
It is our intention to adhere to the day‐to‐day itinerary; however, the order of events or sightseeing/lecture may change as we look to improve our tours or as local conditions dictate.
In these circumstances we will make the best possible arrangements maintaining the integrity of your trip.
Itineraries
Tokyo Orientation & Sumida Aquarium Visit
Meet at Tokyo Station (Marunouchi North Gate) for a welcome orientation with fellow tour participants. After checking in your luggage, travel by private vehicle to Sumida Aquarium in Tokyo Skytree Town.
Here, ADA staff who maintain the aquariums will join us for a guided tour led by aquascape creator Yusuke Honma. You’ll explore five Nature Aquariums originally created by Takashi Amano in 2012, which have been maintained for over 13 years. Learn about the philosophy of Nature Aquariums, including layout structure and planting techniques inspired by nature.
After the visit, transfer via Joetsu Shinkansen to Niigata City, where you’ll stay overnight.
Sado Island Arrival & Coastal Exploration
Depart Niigata Port in the morning aboard a hydrofoil ferry to Ryotsu Port on Sado Island (approx. 1 hour). Once the ferry exits the harbor, it lifts above the water using underwater wings, cruising at speeds of up to 60 km/h.
Upon arrival, visit Aipo Sado Roadside Station, home to a permanent exhibition of Takashi Amano’s photography.
Then, travel by private vehicle to the Sotokaifu coastline near Negai district for a scenic walk along the rugged shore.
Alpine Plant Trek & UNESCO Heritage Visit
Today’s trek begins in Aoneba Valley, ascending 600 meters over 3 hours. Along the way, observe alpine plants like Shirane Aoi, Japanese wood poppy and explore how natural vegetation inspires aquascape design.
Reach Aoneba Pass, then enjoy a ridgeline walk to Mount Donden (934m). Lunch will be served at Donden Highland Lodge, where optional access to a large public bath is available.
From the lodge’s deck, enjoy panoramic views of Kuninaka Plain, Kosado Mountains, and even the Niigata mainland.
In the afternoon, visit Kirarium Sado, a facility introducing the Sado Gold and Silver Mines, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore the history of mining from the early modern period to recent times.
Trekking the Primeval Cedar Forest
After breakfast, embark on a trekking tour of the Osado Ishina Natural Cedar Forest, located along the ridgeline of the Osado Mountains.
Walk along mountain trails in proper outdoor gear, guided by a local expert. Encounter ancient cedar trees nearly 300 years old, and learn about their natural habitat and surrounding plant life.
Highlights include close‐up views of iconic trees such as Ivory Cedar, Shitenno Cedar, and Daikoku Cedar.
Zen Experience in Murakami
After three days on Sado Island, return to Niigata Port via hydrofoil. Enjoy lunch in Murakami City, then travel to Murakami to participate in a traditional Zen meditation session at a local temple.
Learn the practices of Zen meditation, mindfulness, and the philosophy behind the rituals. Gain insight into Japanese spiritual culture through hands-on experience guided by a Zen master.
ADA Nature Aquarium Gallery & W1200mm NA Seminar
Immerse yourself in the beauty of authentic Nature Aquarium at the ADA Nature Aquarium Gallery in Niigata Headquarters.
Join Yusuke Homma for an exclusive hands-on seminar, where he creates a W1200mm aquascape inspired by the natural observations from Sado. An exceptional chance to gain hands-on insight from a master and experience the creation of Nature Aquarium in person.
Final Workshop & Tour Conclusion
On the final day: the “Iwagumi Challenge” — a hands-on stone arrangement exercise using a W450mm aquarium. Yusuke Homma will offer personalized feedback and guidance to refine your design. Participants will also enjoy a comprehensive maintenance session led by ADA staff.
Experience a visit to Takashi Amano’s residence, where you’ll have lunch in the room showcasing his iconic 4-meter Nature Aquarium, spending a truly memorable and special time.
To conclude, receive a special certificate of completion, commemorating your participation in this immersive 7‐day journey. Afterward, you’ll be transferred to Niigata Station, where the tour officially ends.
